On August 17, 2019, I had the pleasure of playing a wedding at the Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach Hilton Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. It was a boisterous event, as the groom and his family were Armenian background and celebrated with traditional dancing. When the father of the groom called me, he was interested in me playing pop music and jazz during the wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. Later I spoke to the wedding planner and found out that the groom already had a harpist for the ceremony and DJ for the dance part of the reception. I pride my business on catering to my client’s ever-changing needs, so I was happy to adjust to just playing the cocktail hour. But it’s funny how weddings go: I arrived early just in case, and it turned out that they wanted me to play as guests entered the dinner area as well. I ended up playing an hour extra, and had a nice time meeting everyone and playing some new songs that the father of the groom had requested. It was especially gratifying that the DJ and I coordinated seamless transitions from his music to mine at different points of the reception.
North County San Diego Chamber of Commerce happy hour at Bernardo Winery
I was hired to play the happy hour for the Chamber’s Celebration of Business awards ceremony on June 27, 2019. About 400 professionals attended, including soccer star Landon Donovan, and I had a nice time playing instrumentals of popular music on my sax in the vintage open barn on the Bernardo Winery’s space, which I highly recommend for any of your events. The staff was friendly and the bar was convenient to the gathering space. Lots of interesting decor, which you can see in some of these photos.
Fourth of July gig
For the holiday I was hired to play at the Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego. It’s a nice club, with yachts all over, and they created a nice dance floor for folks wanting to dance to the music. It was lots of fun, and my 2-year-old Tiana loved the fireworks all around the bay as I wrapped up playing.

Surprise bday on the beach
I was accomplice to a wonderful plan to surprise my client’s wife for her birthday on the beach. It was a very special moment, one of the reasons I love playing jazz and romantic saxophone. My client emailed me that he wanted my ideas on how to best surprise his wife with a romantic evening for her bday, with me playing cool jazz and love songs on the sax. I suggested a few intimate restaurants, as well as clubhouse rentals where a catered or take out meal could be set up in complete privacy. Then he decided catching a sunset would be ideal, so we made plans to meet at Coronado Beach, where there would be plenty of room for us. He texted a photo of them all dressed up for the evening, so I’d know what to look for as they passed me at the appointed spot. I followed them out to their picnic spot for sunset, and surprised his wife and played some classic love songs for them. They were super nice and appreciated that I was on time and kept it discrete so as not to ruin the surprise. They enjoyed the music and experience, and gave me a 5-star Yelp review. I really loved playing the surprise because they kept saying I helped them make memories- me playing sax in a picturesque setting on the beach at sunset
